Radiation therapy is a technologically intensive discipline of oncology medicine. The goal of this program is to review principles of radiation therapy and explore the many considerations involved in developing an individualized patient treatment plan that includes symptom management, delivering precise therapy, and managing outcomes.

The goal of this program is to review principles of radiation therapy and explore the many considerations involved in developing an individualized patient treatment plan that includes symptom management, delivering precise therapy, and managing outcomes. Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Describe the different methods of radiation delivery
  • Explain the role and importance of simulation
  • Describe the factors in developing a unique treatment plan
  • Describe the components of the linear accelerator
  • Describe the various side effects of radiation therapy and their nursing management

Criteria for Successful Completion of Continuing Education Program:

To receive continuing nursing education credit, view the audio-slide show, take the multiple choice post test, and complete the evaluation online. Upon successful completion of the post test and evaluation, you will be able to print your continuing nursing education credit certificate. A passing grade of 70% is required.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the ONS, an accredited approver by the American Nurse Credentialing Center's COA.
